A Short Prayer for Cornerstone Four Days In
Heavenly Father,
I know they are there, but I cannot see them. They are the sheep of your fold, the delight of your heart, they are the Father’s gift of love to the Son and the Son’s honor to the Father. They are those over whom you delight with singing having transferred them form the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of your beloved Son. You bought them with a price, the precious blood of your Son. They are not their own. They are the sons and daughters of God, the spiritual siblings of Your Firstborn, their elder Brother, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
And today, by wise providence, the working of divine sovereignty in the world of humanity, they are scattered, isolated, challenged by extraordinary societal change. Our circumstances are not near as difficult as those prophesied for the end of days, but they are difficult nonetheless.
And because they are scattered and I cannot see them, I long for them. I miss them. But I am grateful. I am grateful that they are not as those of whom you once spoke, sheep scattered without a shepherd, lost, astray, alone, vulnerable. I cannot see them, reach out to them, touch them, but You can. You do.
2 Chronicles 16:9 (ESV) 9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.”
Psalm 34:15 (ESV) 15 The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.
Proverbs 15:3 (ESV) 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
1 Peter 3:12 (ESV) 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.”
It is true that He who watches over Israel slumbers not nor sleeps. So, it is no leap of faith to seek the heart of God and ask, O Shepherd of Israel, that you will attend unto Your sheep; O Head of the Church, keep watch over Your Body; O Father, protect Your children; O God of Glory, secure Your interests. I cannot see them, but You see them, in all the places where You have hidden them, with all the challenges you have set before them, for Your glory and for their eternal joy.
Forgive their sins, make them holy, heal their bodies, deepen their souls. You have set them in heavenly places in Christ, empower them to live from the position of favor in which You have placed them today. I cannot see them, but You can. You do.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
